B2 - Buzz Recap, Branding & More!

Updated: Feb 21, 2020

As we look forward to MOMENTUM 2020, I wanted to take a moment and reflect on The Buzz Conference back in January! The "BAR" style conference was a first for me, and I have to say ... I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Ok, well maybe not every minute as I missed my good friend Melissa Charlton's presentation (we were scheduled to speak at the same time in different rooms), but I did get her notes afterwards!!! My presentation was all on BRANDING and the evolution of James In The City and how far it's come since it's inception. If I can share something from my presentation, it would be "Be Consistent and Be Authentic".

Building your brand is not a one day thing. You can't just post something on Instagram and pray that it gets you a lead or a deal. You have to build and solidify those relationships and eventually they will pay off.

The one testament to my brand is when someone refers to me as "James In The City". I find it highly entertaining how few people know my last name!

My mail gets addressed James In The City, my invites to events come to James In The City, other brokers know me as James In The City and I am just so honoured! There were some amazing speakers and great content! I walked away with some key points that I want to share with you: Christina Kroner talked about knowing her tribe and using her Mini Cooper club to secure her over $6M worth of business. It doesn't have to be cars. Whatever your passion is, find your tribe within that circle and own it! Christine Mitchell Vice President and Managing Broker at Johnston & Daniel led an amazing power panel on Luxury Real Estate. It's all about knowing your client, managing their expectations and delivering the unexpected. Anyone can sell real estate, but not everyone can deliver the experience. Natasha Koifman of NKPR was my highlight. We have very similar views on branding and when she said "Don't Just Talk, Say Something", it just hit home. I already run my social media in a very similar style and I am looking forward to brainstorming future business with Natasha! People are afraid to go to conferences as it "takes time away from their business". Yeah, you're taking a day off, but what you come back with is far more valuable. I can guarantee at least 1 referral from every conference I attend, but I love being able to meet people that I follow on Instagram face to face.

This little video was captured by my marketing director and you can hear Jacqueline Pennington talk about our relationship. We've spoken on line for years. We send Christmas gifts and cards. We share the same love for decor and design, but THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME WE MET IN PERSON. Don't be afraid to to go to a conference. Go in with an open mind. Go in without an ego and walk out with new friends, new ideas and new referrals. Momentum 2020 is on Wednesday September 9th and Thursday September 10th at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.

I'm coming back with my branding seminar and we are in for a treat with The Buzz Committee will they do next!

Purchase your tickets here! See you guys in September!
